The Faerie House · Idyllwild, California
Questions, Answered
Where is The Faerie House, and how far is it from Los Angeles?
The Faerie House sits in the pines of Idyllwild, California, a mountain town in the San Jacinto range of Southern California. Most guests reach us in 90 to 120 minutes from Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego — close enough for a weekend, far enough that the air changes. The drive winds up through the mountains and ends where the road does, which is part of the experience.
How many guests does The Faerie House sleep?
The house sleeps up to 16 guests across six distinctive rooms and several flexible sleeping spaces, including the SkyReach Suite, the Enchanted Treehouse Theatre Suite, the Librarian’s Loft, and the Revel Room with its Murphy bed. Groups of every shape stay here — friend weekends, family reunions, creative retreats, and celebration crews.
Is there a hot tub and sauna?
Yes. The Canopy Spa — our private hot tub — is perched in the forest tree canopy and heated year-round. There is also a private wood-burning sauna reached through a secret stone passageway, an outdoor forest shower under open sky, and multiple fire pits across the multi-level decks. Wellness is not an add-on here; it is the architecture.
Can we host a micro-wedding or elopement at The Faerie House?
Yes. The Faerie House hosts intimate micro-weddings and elopements with two outdoor ceremony spaces, including a natural forest amphitheatre, and overnight lodging for up to 16 so your closest people wake up where the celebration happened. Our Weddings page has the details, and a Visioning Stay lets couples experience the house before deciding.
Do we get the entire property to ourselves?
Always. Every booking includes the entire property — the house, all six rooms, the decks, the hot tub, the sauna, and the grounds are exclusively yours. No shared spaces, no other guests, and no host on site during your stay. The forest is your only neighbor.
What is included in a stay?
A fully stocked chef’s kitchen, the theatre suite with projector and surround sound, a floor-to-ceiling library, the Revel Room with vintage pinball, high-speed WiFi, linens and towels, and on-site parking for six to eight vehicles — plus every deck, fire pit, and wellness amenity on the property. You bring the groceries and your people; the house handles the rest.
Is The Faerie House good for remote work or a workcation?
Genuinely, yes. There are desks with forest and treetop views, high-speed WiFi throughout, and the kind of quiet that midweek in the mountains does best. Writers finish chapters here, teams run offsites, and more than a few guests have discovered that Monday meetings feel different at treetop level.
Does it snow in Idyllwild?
Yes — Idyllwild sits high enough in the San Jacinto Mountains for real seasons. Winter brings snowfall through the pines, firelight indoors, and some of the most beautiful weeks of the year at the house. Spring and fall are golden, and summer stays noticeably cooler than the valleys below, which is exactly why the town exists.
Are pets allowed?
Pets are welcome with prior approval, and a nightly pet fee applies. Message us before booking with the details of your crew — species, size, and temperament all considered with love.
How do we book directly?
The best way is through our website — you can check live availability from the Gallery or Book pages and reserve directly. Direct guests get our best availability, and past guests receive first word on short-notice openings through our guest list. The Faerie House is also listed on Airbnb, VRBO, and Booking.com if you prefer to book there.
What is the minimum stay?
Typically two nights on weekends, with flexible minimums midweek. Midweek is also when the mountain is at its quietest — worth knowing if a slower, softer version of the house appeals to you.
How does the wood-burning sauna work?
Firewood is staged and ready when you arrive, and the sauna takes about 45 minutes to reach full temperature. The ritual of loading and lighting it is part of the experience — your host will walk you through it. From there: cedar heat, cold mountain air, repeat.
Can we bring a caterer or private chef?
Yes. The kitchen is fully equipped and catering-friendly, with room for a chef to work while the group gathers around them. Long dinners are something of a house specialty.
Are experiences available to add to a stay?
Yes — sound journeys, guided movement, creative workshops, fireside ceremonies, and romantic arrival enhancements can be added to any stay, from $45 to $85 per person. Ask when you book, or visit the Enhance page.
What is a Visioning Stay?
A Visioning Stay is an intentional weekday stay for guests planning a future wedding, retreat, workshop, or gathering at the Faerie House. You experience the atmosphere, explore how the spaces flow, and envision your gathering with clarity. A portion of the stay may be applied toward a future event booking when applicable.
Is the Faerie House good for romantic getaways?
Very much so. Couples choose the house for anniversaries, proposal weekends, honeymoons, and restorative escapes — forest, firelight, spa amenities, and mountain quiet do most of the work. Midweek romantic stays are a quiet favorite.
Is the house suitable for young children or guests with limited mobility?
The Faerie House welcomes many kinds of gatherings, but the property is multi-level with stairs, lofts, and artistic installations throughout, so it may not be ideal for very young children or guests with limited mobility. Reach out with specific questions before booking and we will give you an honest answer.
Are there quiet hours?
Yes — quiet hours run from 10 PM to 7 AM out of respect for the surrounding mountain community, with outdoor amplified sound paused during that window. Indoors, the night is yours; the theatre suite and the Revel Room were built for exactly that.
Can we use the Faerie House for photo shoots or content creation?
Yes. The property is frequently used for photography, styled shoots, creative retreats, and immersive content thanks to its distinctive design. Inquire directly for commercial or production use.
