Request Late Check-out Text Faerie GodMother

May all who enter this sacred space agree to create a beautiful & joyful experience, to respect our neighbors, and honor our sweet little town by adhering to the county ordinances detailed below.

🔑Arrival, Key & Parking+

Check-in & check-out

Arrival after 4:00 PM · Departure by 10:00 AM. Early check-in (Ground Early, 1 PM) or late check-out (Rise Late, 1 PM) may be arranged in advance for $150 each — the sooner you ask, the more likely we can book the cleaning team around you. Tap to text a request. Unapproved extensions may incur $90/hour; departures past 2:00 PM count as an additional night.

The key

It clicks left — depress the lever slightly. No need to over-twist or force the door. Press the brass button to prevent lock-outs. Lost keys are a $75 replacement fee plus any locksmith costs. Please don't use the driveway slider entrance.

Parking

County ordinance: NO street parking. Code Enforcement fines guests ~$1,500.

Park a maximum of 6 cars tandem in the driveway, plus 2 on the property — right side of the driveway (facing the house), under the trees. Need more? Ask us about parking solutions.

Second point of contact

If you plan on deep-diving into la-la land, pretty please make sure we have a second contact in your group for emergencies, neighbor or county calls, or fire alarms. A friendly Faerie Godmother message beats an angry knock at the door every time.

🌿House Harmony Essentials+

Respectfully: if neighbors or code enforcement get involved (calls or visits), guests are fined $500 in addition to any county-imposed fees, billable to the guest. County code violations may be grounds for ending a stay without refund. Common triggers: extra guests, street parking, outdoor noise, lights, or fire features during quiet hours (10 PM–7 AM), or dogs off-leash or barking.

Extra guests

We joyfully welcome gatherings of kindred spirits — and every person must be accounted for. Each guest beyond your reservation needs advance approval; a supplemental fee of $100 per guest, per day may apply.

Plumbing

Use only the septic-safe 1-ply toilet paper we provide. Absolutely no wipes, feminine products, or anything else down the toilets.

Fur babies 🐾

Most furry companions are welcome with a $45/day/pet fee, pending prior approval.

  • Don't leave pets unattended.
  • Paws off furniture unless you've laid down a blanket from home.
  • Dry wet, muddy paws when returning indoors.
  • The deck is enclosed, but keep the treehouse-style gate closed.
  • All outdoor pet business on-leash and lovingly cleaned up after. ☺️

Once approved, a pet-fee request comes through the booking app — please complete it before arrival. Thank you mucho! ♥️

🔊Sound, Quiet Hours & Movie Nights+

The Faerie House is made for music and joy — but sound carries far in the mountains. Quiet hours are 10 PM–7 AM by Riverside County ordinance: no outdoor speakers, fire pits, or bright lights. Move the good vibes indoors with windows and doors closed.

Outdoor speakers

Two stereo zones — "Jacuzzi" and "Grill Side Porch" — are for outdoors. Turn them all the way off when you're not outside and from 10 PM–7 AM. Never above 50% volume. Double-check they're off at check-out.

House sound system

Inside the wooden cabinet above the fireplace: the top unit's dials control volume by zone; press the little buttons for specific zones. Bluetooth is "B06," input aux2/game. Please don't adjust stereo, projector, or soundbar connections — reset tech fees get passed through. Bringing your own speaker? Let us know first.

Movie nights 🎥

Epson remote for the projector · Roku remote for streaming · press power on the soundbar and adjust volume there. No purchases or input changes, please. Remote trouble? Use the Roku Remote app on your phone.

🔥Fire Safety & Permits+
Fire permit required for the propane fire pits and grill — free from the Idyllwild Fire Department. It should show your name, your address, the Faerie House address, and your full stay dates. Text us a photo of the permit before using ANY outdoor fire features.
  • Fire pits off by 10 PM and never left unattended.
  • 🚫 Never put wood or anything else into the propane fire pits or grill.
  • Fire extinguishers: kitchen (right of fridge), near the fireplaces, downstairs near the sauna, and outside near the outdoor shower.

Smoke alarms

If an alarm goes off, message us immediately — we're linked to a live ADT system that dispatches the fire department instantly. Tell us right away whether it's a real emergency so we can call them off; false-alarm dispatch fines are passed on. Always run the stove fan while cooking.

Firewood & fireplaces

  • Only local firewood purchased in Idyllwild (outside wood carries invasive insects). Don't collect or burn wood from the land.
  • The firewood shed near the house belongs to the neighbor — do not use it. Pro tip: trust us on this one.
  • Check the flue is open before lighting. Burn only local firewood, fire starters, and brown paper — Duraflame starter, never lighter fluid. Keep the mesh screen closed.
  • If smoke enters the room: the flue is closed or the fire sits too far forward.
♨️Spa, Sauna & Fire Pits+

The Canopy Spa (warms in ~15–20 min)

Controllers are inside the house, right of the living-room sliding door: left knob = heat, right knob = bubbles.

  • Please add nothing to the water — no salts, oils, or soaps.
  • Re-cover when not in use to keep debris out and warmth in.
  • If the water sits lower than 6" from the top, top up with the hose near the kitchen window.
  • No running or jumping around the spa. Don't adjust heat or filter settings on the equipment.
  • No alcohol in the spa, never use it while intoxicated, and keep yourself hydrated.

The Ritual Sauna (wood-burning, ~60 min to heat)

A ritual of heat, stillness, and release — safety first, always. No alcohol or intoxication, ever. If you feel dizzy, sit low, sip water, or step out to cool.

  • Only 1–2 pieces of wood in the burner at a time.
  • Loosen the round dial on the stove front for airflow — this prevents smoke backup.
  • Keep doors closed to hold heat; the stove and metal get extremely hot; no plastic anywhere near it.
  • For steam: fill the kettle and pour a splash over the hot stones — never directly onto the stove.
  • Ready to cool? Slip through the hidden passageway to the outdoor shower. 🌀 Afterward, pour a pitcher of clean water over the benches and floor to cleanse the space.

Fire pit instructions

Spa fire pit: open the side panel, press the gas dial down and hold, slightly turned, while lighting the top with a long lighter. Hold ~15 seconds until it sets.

Outdoor shower — lower pit: the main feed valve is above the door from the shower into the sauna — turn from perpendicular to 45° to the pipe. Then find the ground valve under the bench right of the pit and do the same. Safest to light with two people, or toss a lit match in. When finished, return both valves to perpendicular (off).

Outdoor shower — upper pit: in the nook behind the pit, turn the dial and hold the igniter button.

If too much time passes between opening the gas and lighting, you'll smell it — turn it off, let it dissipate a couple of minutes, and try again. A couple of minutes is totally worth your eyebrows. Start the gas LOW, then adjust once lit.
🌡Climate: Cozy & Cool+

Use either heat or A/C — never both at once. "Sensi" thermostat (near the stairs) controls A/C; "Honeywell" controls heat. Set both fans to "Auto" and leave them there.

Summer ☀️

Heat waves happen July–September and the upstairs loft can run warm even with A/C. Fans live in the bedroom closets. Keep office blinds drawn by day, the upstairs bathroom door closed during hot hours, master bathroom windows open at night, and downstairs doors open to let cool air rise.

Winter 🔥

Two wood-burning fireplaces for classic cozy (see Fire Safety for rules — and if you're new to fireplaces, a quick YouTube tutorial is genuinely worth it). Additional warmth: wall heater in the downstairs bedroom (never unattended), faux-fireplace heaters in the Library and Play Studio, and heated bamboo floors in the Media Room.

🍳The Alchemist's Kitchen+

Stocked and ready: dishes, serving and mixing bowls, cutlery, knives, blender, toaster, microwave, French press and drip coffee, and an RO re-mineralized water filter. Enjoy any spices, teas, coffee, and condiments here — bring your own ingredients and special items for cooking.

✨ Please treat glassware, ceramics, and cookware with care — and if something breaks, tell us so we can replace it for the next guests.

  • Remove food scraps before loading the dishwasher; pods and trash bags are under the sink.
  • No food down the garbage disposal.
  • Hand-wash wooden, nonstick, and jeweled/artisan pieces.
  • After using the oven or stovetop, please wipe away food and grease — it's appreciated more than you know.
🌙Deck, Lighting & Outdoors+

Umbrellas: keep closed when not in use and at check-out — mountain wind is real.

Deck lights: most run on a timer — on at sunset, off by 10 PM for the light/sound ordinance. If you've manually switched any on (silver switch outside the kitchen door), turn them off by 10 PM. If a timer misbehaves, tell us and we'll fix it remotely.

Solar string lights: switch on/off at the back of their small panels; they need sun that day to glow.

Cushions: in rain or snow, bring them inside or store them in the closet next to the front door; set them back out when skies clear if you like. :)

Dreaming of event up-lighting like in some photos? Ask us — it may be available for an additional set-up cost.

🎭The Play Studio+

A flex space for fun, movement, and gathering on the lowest level, accessible through the smart-lock door when included in your stay. It locks from inside with a dowel; please minimize entry and exit through the driveway side.

  • Serve up elixirs from the bar; lounge by the wall fireplace and TV.
  • Swing around the dance pole with its own sound system, or connect to the house audio via built-in ceiling speakers.
  • Nerdy competitive funzeez on the Star Wars pinball machine.
  • Yoga flow — mats in the cabinet.
  • Murphy bed sleeps 2 (plus a petite futon that sleeps 1).

The studio is $150/day, complimentary for reservations of 14+ guests.

Murphy bed

Pull the silver handle of the large gray closet out slightly, unlatch the chain lock inside-right of the frame, place the gray wooden support under the foot before fully lowering, and ease it down gently.

❄️Weather, Snow & Outages+

Seasons here bring everything from golden sun to snow-blanketed winters. Check conditions before your journey — chains are rarely required, but all-wheel drive is recommended when snow or ice is present. Live road and fire updates: quickmap.dot.ca.gov.

The road to the house is paved and typically plowed the day it snows. During heavier storms we'll do our best to clear the driveway enough for parking — remember, it's a small mountain town and most locals are digging out their own driveways too. Patience and kindness go a long way.

Snow safety 🧊

  • Guests are responsible for being able to drive out safely at check-out.
  • Salt and plastic shovels are usually under the deck — plastic tools only on steps, decks, and cars.
  • Don't let snow sit overnight; it freezes into ice that's far harder (and more dangerous) to clear.
  • Need help? Tell us ASAP — snow service averages $150–$200 for driveway, steps, and entry.

Storms & power outages ⚡

Severe conditions are rare but real. We'll support you every way we can, but nature is beyond our control — we can't issue refunds for weather-related disruptions, or credits for downtime of amenities that need power/wifi when the cause is weather or the utility company. Flashlights and oil lamps are tucked in the kitchen drawer just in case. Thank you for understanding.

🌿 Farewell Rituals 🌿

As you prepare to return to the world beyond, we ask your help in gently closing the circle.

  • Sheets: strip used beds, place linens near the washer/dryer. Extra cool points if you start the washer — it makes a real difference for our cleaning faeries~
  • Dishes: wash anything you've used; hand-wash wooden items, pots, pans, and specialty utensils.
  • Trash: bagged and in the bins beneath the deck (3+ bags may add a small cleaning fee). Sunday is pickup day.
  • Power down: all lights, heating, and cooling off.
  • Close the deck umbrella · Cover the spa · Outdoor speakers off.
  • Return furniture where you found it.
  • Windows & doors closed, key where you found it.

Let the space remember you kindly, as you carry its magic wherever you roam. ✨
